A lot of emotions go into season finale all-star games.

Tuesday night at Pine Grove Park was no different, as the area’s top seniors played one final time in their high school jerseys in the St. Clair County Community College all-star softball game.

“It might be my last time playing fastpitch softball,” Port Huron Northern’s Heidi Wilson said. “I’m also a little nervous, there’s a lot of good girls here.”

More than 40 players took the field under the lights to display the Blue Water Area’s talent, and it took extra innings to figure out the better side.

With a two-out run scored by St. Clair’s Sarah Longuski in the top of the 10th inning off Richmond’s Lindsey Schweiger’s bat, Blue Team took the 3-2 win.

After the game, Armada’s Madison Kortas earned the game’s MVP award thanks to three shutout innings and a RBI sacrifice fly.

“Just putting my high school uniform back on (was the best part) and playing with some great BWAC players,” Kortas said. “It was just lighthearted fun and also competitive too. It was a great time.”

Pitching highlighted the game early as Imlay City’s Rebecca Ramirez and Yale’s Holly Engel combined for three shutout innings for Gold Team. St. Clair’s Allison Gardner also pitched two shutout innings for Blue Team to start the game as well.

Croswell-Lexington’s Taylor Bevins broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third, hitting in Yale’s Ally Edgerton for the Gold Team’s BWAC-powered run. Blue Team responded in the top of the fourth with Sandusky’s Caroline Ross scoring on a sac fly from Kortas.

Engel started the bottom of the fourth with a triple, later being hit home by Capac’s Cassidy Loridon for a 2-1 Gold lead. Once again, Blue answered with a RBI single by Schweiger to score Memphis’ Ellie Forka to make it 2-2 until extra innings.
