Runners on the Port Huron Northern boys cross-country team recorded impressive times Saturday morning in the Hansons Invitational at Delia Park.
The Huskies won their third invitational title of the season as they finished with 46 points, 31 ahead of runner-up Clarkston. The Division 1 field consisted of 14 teams.
The Marysville girls competed in the Division 2 race.
“I’m really happy with how the guys ran today,” Northern Coach Craig Dickinson said. “It was a very honest course with four hills. The hills were like the Marine City hill and you had to go up it four times.
“There also were some long straightaways where you could get going. It was a course where you could run fast, but not blow the doors off.”
Tyler Delange led the Northern attack with a second-place finish at 16 minutes, 16 seconds. Matt Thomas was right behind Delange in third at 16:20.
Rounding out the Northern scoring was Scott Stokan (ninth, 17:00), Ty Dickinson (14th, 17:07) and Tom Mullally (18th, 17:19). Brad Hunt came in 20th at 17:33.
“We had all the guys run their yearly best times,“ Dickinson said. “A few beat their lifetime times. Our sixth runner ran his best time of the season.”
The Huskies, who won the Mike Jackson Invitational at Croswell-Lexington and the Muskrat Classic at Algonac, is running Thursday at the Marysville Invitational and Saturday at the Portage Invitational.
