Huskies hope to bounce back in District play

Joseph Hayes, Times Herald, May 29, 2017

The Port Huron Northern soccer team has struggled recently. But that doesn’t diminish the season the Huskies put together.

The Huskies (8-7-3) will open play Tuesday at 6 p.m. against Chippewa Valley at Northern.

“We have hit a bunch of a rough patch with injuries and illnesses, but we had a strong season until the past two weeks,” Northern coach Bryan Becker said. “We are hoping to regroup for Tuesday.

“It’s the third time we will play Chippewa Valley. We hope we can keep closing the gap on them. They beat us the first two times. But in the postseason, everyone has a chance. When the playoffs start, anything that happened in the regular season is irrelevant at that point.”

Port Huron will open district play at L’Anse Creuse North and the winning teams will advance to into the second round at Anchor Bay High School.

Saturday’s final is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
